Reece, Chargers Each Take 10th in Highland 36

Sophomore Brayden Reece (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) placed 10th overall and the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team took 10th as a team as the Chargers opened their season in the Highland 36 on Friday at Park Hills.
Reece put together a 1-under-par 35 on his opening nine and finished the first round with a 3-over 75. He added a 6-over 78 in the second round for a 154 total on the day to pace the Chargers.
Sophomore Bryce Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) totaled 162 after rounds of 80 and 82, and twin Brady Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) finished at 84-88-172. Freshman Grant Campbell (Earlville, Ill./Earlville) came in at 175 (89-86) as the Chargers shot 329 in the first round and 334 in the final 18 holes for a 663 total. Freshman Matt Graves (Oneida, Ill./ROWVA) had rounds of 97 and 94 that didn’t count toward Sandburg’s team scores.
Black Hawk Gold posted round of 311 and 298 to win with a total of 609. DuPage was runner-up with 638. Black Hawk’s Rielly McGranahan was medalist after shooting a 1-under 143 (72-71) for the day.
Sandburg will host the Charger Classic at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lake Bracken Country Club. The Chargers will follow that by competing in the Kewanee Dunes Classic at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
